Watts Gallery Hope Project

Compton Guildford

Background

The Gallery was built in 1904 and houses much of the collection of paintings by the artist GF Watts. Funding is in place for a £4.5m project.

The project includes the installation of two lifts and M&E services to preserve the collection, to enable free access, and to permit top quality presentation to visitors. A key priority is to preserve character while achieving high environmental standards. Additional accommodation is planned together with repairs of structural defects such as a spreading roof to the man gallery.

Extensive landscape design is in progress which includes new permeable paved car parking areas ( in line with Sustainable Drainage System principles).

Our Involvement

ACA are assisting with all the above. One particular aspect of ACA's work involves investigating how the Gesso Model Of Physical Energy may be safely moved outside on its rails as it did for GF Watts permitting observation at a distance

Working closely with the Curator, Conservator, Caretaker and X-Ray Specialist. The question is being answered.
