About Us

Our practice

Adrian Cox Associates was formed in 1992 with the aim of being a centre of excellence for structural engineering design and conservation of historic buildings with civil engineering design in a building context. Success in building conservation was to be assisted by full involvement in new build work in order to fully benefit from the latest techniques such as advances in computer software. This is in contrast to some other specialists in this field who work only on historic buildings.

Adrian Cox and Nigel Sherratt were associates at Price and Myers, before Adrian Cox Associates was formed.

Since then the practice has worked on conservation projects including Dr Johnsons' House Museum, Gough Square, several projects at Arundel Castle, conservation at St Mary's Church, Stone, St Peters Church, Oare and numerous other churches throughout the south east. For the latter two conservation projects, the architect received The King of Prussia's Gold Medal in 2004 and 2005.

The practice has also worked on a variety of successful new build projects including a boarding house at St Leonards-Mayfield school (£0.4m), Harbour Ridge - a 9 storey , 36 apartment block with basement parking in Portsmouth, value £3m, and an extension to BP International's conference centre at Durdent Court value £2.5m, completed 1998.

We have also built up a reputation for accurate diagnosis of structural defects, and a willingness to apply original solutions to problems where appropriate. Expertise in the use of the latest computer software - particularly in the conservation context is also a distinctive feature.
